In this page, you'll find definitions for important terms related to our product or service, as well as explanations for industry-specific acronyms or standards that may come up in our documentation.

General

  • CookieHub: CookieHub is a cookie consent management platform that provides website owners with tools to manage and control cookies on their websites.
  • Cookie: A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on a user's computer or mobile device when they visit the site. Cookies are used for various purposes, including tracking user behavior, remembering user preferences, and delivering targeted advertising.
  • Cookie consent banner: A cookie consent banner is a pop-up banner that appears on a website to inform users about the use of cookies on the site and to obtain their consent.
  • Cookie Scan: An automated tool that scans your website to detect and categorize cookies and other tracking technologies.
  • Cookie Categories: Pre-defined categories for cookies based on their purpose, such as necessary, preferences, analytics, and marketing.
  • Consent: A freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous indication of the data subject's wishes by which he or she, by a statement or by a clear affirmative action, signifies agreement to the processing of personal data relating to him or her.
  • Widget: The CookieHub widget is a JavaScript code snippet that website owners install on their sites to manage cookies and obtain user consent.

Dashboard

  • Dashboard: The main screen of the CookieHub platform where you can access all the features and information about your account.
  • Audit Log: A record of all actions taken on the CookieHub platform, including changes to settings, consent actions, and user management.
  • API Keys: A unique code that allows external applications to access and interact with the CookieHub platform.
  • Billing: The section of the dashboard where you can manage your payment information, view invoices and transactions, and top up your account balance.
  • Balance: The amount of credit available in your account for paying for CookieHub services.
  • Subscriptions: A list of all active subscriptions, including the next renewal date and the ability to cancel the subscription.
  • Transactions: A list of all invoice transactions and payments made.
  • Invoices: A record of all invoices generated for your account, including payment status and the ability to download a PDF version of paid invoices.
  • Consent Log: A log of all user consent actions, including the date and time of consent and the type of action taken.
  • Users: A list of all users with access to your account and their respective roles, including the ability to add, edit, or remove users.
  • Accounts: A list of all accounts associated with your email address, including the ability to switch between accounts if you have access to multiple accounts.

Billing

  • Session: Number of times the CookieHub widget is loaded on a website.
  • Subscription plan: A subscription plan is a package of services offered by CookieHub to manage cookies on a website. Subscription plans include a set number of monthly sessions and access to different features.
  • VAT: Value-added tax is a consumption tax added to the price of goods and services. The VAT rate varies by country.
  • Page scan limit: The page scan limit is the maximum number of pages that CookieHub will scan on a website to identify cookies.
  • NPO: NPO stands for non-profit organization. CookieHub offers a lifetime 50% discount on all paid subscriptions to registered NPOs.
  • Reverse charge rule: The reverse charge rule is a tax regulation that shifts the tax liability from the supplier to the customer. Customers located outside of Iceland are subject to the reverse charge rule in the country of receipt and are not charged VAT by CookieHub.

GDPR

  • GDPR: General Data Protection Regulation is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA).
  • Data Controller: A person or organization that determines the purposes and means of processing personal data.
  • Data Processor: A person or organization that processes personal data on behalf of the data controller.
  • Data Subject: An individual who is the subject of personal data.
  • Privacy Policy: A document that outlines how a company collects, uses, and protects personal data.
  • Data Protection Officer (DPO): An expert on data protection who monitors GDPR compliance within an organization.
  • Data Portability: The right of a data subject to receive their personal data in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format and to transmit that data to another data controller.
  • Processing: Any operation performed on personal data, such as collection, storage, use, and disclosure.
  • Supervisory Authority: An independent public authority responsible for enforcing GDPR within a member state.
  • GDPR Recitals: Explanatory statements that accompany the GDPR regulation and provide guidance on how it should be interpreted.
  • GDPR Article: A specific section of the GDPR regulation that sets out rules and obligations.

CCPA

  • California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA): A data privacy law that gives California residents the right to know what personal information businesses collect about them, the right to request that it be deleted, and the right to opt-out of its sale.
  • Personal Information: Information that identifies, relates to, describes, or is capable of being associated with, a particular consumer or household, including but not limited to name, address, email address, Social Security number, driver's license number, and biometric data.
  • Sale of Personal Information: The exchange or disclosure of personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration by a business to a third party.
  • Service Provider: A business that processes personal information on behalf of another business and under its instructions, for a specific purpose.
  • Opt-Out: The right of a consumer to direct a business that sells personal information about the consumer to third parties to stop selling that information.
  • Right to Know: The right of a consumer to request that a business disclose the specific pieces of personal information it has collected about the consumer, as well as information about how that information has been used and shared.
  • Do Not Sell My Personal Information (DNS): A link or button on a business's website that allows California residents to opt-out of the sale of their personal information.
  • Consent: Permission given by a consumer to a business to collect, use, and/or share their personal information.
  • TCF 2.x (Transparency and Consent Framework version): The second version of the IAB Europe's framework for obtaining and managing user consent for data processing and advertising purposes.
  • CMP (Consent Management Platform): A tool or service that enables website owners to collect, store, and manage user consent data for data processing and advertising purposes in compliance with data protection laws, including GDPR and ePrivacy.
  • Vendor: A third-party service provider that processes personal data for advertising or other purposes on behalf of a publisher or advertiser.
  • Publisher: The owner or operator of a website or app that collects and processes personal data for advertising or other purposes.
  • Advertiser: A company or individual that buys advertising space on a website or app in order to promote their products or services.
  • Purposes: The specific reasons for which personal data is collected, processed, and used, including advertising, analytics, and content personalization.
  • Legal Basis: The lawful justification for processing personal data, as defined by the GDPR. The TCF includes five legal bases for data processing: consent, legitimate interest, contractual necessity, legal obligation, and vital interest.
  • Consent: A clear and affirmative indication of user agreement to the processing of their personal data for specific purposes, given freely and unambiguously, and with the option to withdraw consent at any time.
  • Transparency: The principle of making clear and accessible information about how personal data is collected, processed, and used, including the purposes, legal basis, and data retention period.
  • Opt-in: The user action of actively giving their consent to the processing of their personal data for specific purposes.
  • Opt-out: The user action of withdrawing their consent or indicating their objection to the processing of their personal data for specific purposes.
  • TC String: The technical format used to transmit user consent choices and other data to vendors and other parties in the ad tech ecosystem.
  • Global Vendor List: A list of vendors and their purposes that is maintained by the IAB Europe and used by CMPs to facilitate user consent choices.
  • Special Purposes: Purposes that involve the processing of sensitive or special categories of personal data, such as data related to health or religion, which require explicit user consent under the GDPR.
  • Signals: Signals are requests sent by websites and apps to signal the presence of consent management platforms (CMPs) and the version of the TCF they support. Signals can be sent via HTTP headers or Javascript.
